About us
Portsmouth Cats has grown from one person's spare time into a registered charity โ but the heart of it hasn't changed.
Our story
Penny Parker started helping Portsmouth's lost and stray cats in 2013, driven by a simple idea: no cat should go unclaimed just because nobody thought to check it for a microchip. What began as one person's own time and effort grew, through word of mouth and a growing band of volunteers, into Portsmouth Cats Lost, Found and Re-homed, now a registered charity (No. 1196699).
Today the charity is run entirely by volunteers, scanning cats for microchips at all hours, reuniting families, and caring for unclaimed cats in foster cabins until a new home is found.

What we believe
Our passion is the welfare of cats โ every decision we make starts with what's best for the cat in front of us.
Lost cats don't keep office hours, so neither do we โ our volunteers scan for microchips whenever we're needed.
Penny's Place cabins give cats who can't go straight home a safe, comfortable place to stay while we find their next one.

Our patron
Portsmouth Football Club's record appearance holder and current club ambassador, Alan Knight MBE, is patron of Portsmouth Cats โ supporting the volunteers who continue the work Penny started in 2013.
With thanks
Portsmouth Cats runs on volunteers โ but it's kept running smoothly thanks to the generosity of local and national businesses who give us space, support and supplies. We couldn't do this work without them.
To everyone at Pets at Home and The Big Yellow Self Storage Company โ thank you. Your support gives our volunteers the space and resources to carry on Penny's work, and it means every cat who comes through our doors gets a warmer welcome because of you.
